  • What are Human Rights and why are they important?
Human rights recognise the inherent value of each person, regardless of background, where we live, what we look like, what we think or what we believe. They are based on principles of dignity, equality and mutual respect, which are shared across cultures, religions and philosophies. They are about being treated fairly, treating others fairly and having the ability to make genuine choices in our daily lives. Respect for human rights is the cornerstone of strong communities in which everyone can make a contribution and feel included. Signage made by Boto ensures that spaces are accessible for all people. • How can I make my commercial spaces more inclusive and accessible?
Spaces really profit from updated signage to ensure all people feel welcome. For people with different abilities, it helps to know where the accessible entry is and what facilities are available to them. This is not only to comply to building codes, but simply put, it's good for business. People with neurodivers requirements may want to visit at certain times when sound and noise is minimal. This can be announced by the use of inclusive signage. Restaurants may want to look at braille translations for their menu to allow vision impaired people the dignity to browse the menu. These little things matter and are this world a better place for all.
  • How do I install signage made by boto®?
Please review below requirements for compliance/best practice: • Braille and tactile components of a sign should be installed not less than 1200mm and not higher than 1600mm above the floor or ground surface. • Signs with single lines of characters should have the line of tactile characters no less than 1250mm and not higher than 1350mm above the ground surface. • Preferably, signs identifying rooms or facilities are installed on the wall latch side of the door with the leading edge of the sign located between 50mm and 300mm from the architrave. If this is not possible, the Signage may be placed on the door itself, centered horizontally and keeping within guidelines for height (as above). Our signage has an adhesive backing so pretty much anyone can install it.
  • What is Luminance Contrast and why does it matter?
Luminance contrast as the light reflected from one surface or component, compared to the light reflected from another surface or component. Any signage should have a luminance contrast with the surface on which it is mounted of no less than 30%. This helps people with vision impairment locate the signage more easily. Our existing colour range has the following Light Reflectance Values (LRV). Colour LRV% ______________________________ Carbon 3 Earth 8 Midnight 12 Nato 28 Sienna 52 Pencil 38 Sun 77 Cloud 84 In order to check if 30% contrast between a painted wall and our signage is achieved, look up the LRV of the paint and compare it with the above values. The difference must be at least 30%, otherwise the contrast is too minimal to comply with the National Construction Code (NCC) of Australia/NZ.
  • What is the NCC?
The National Construction Code (NCC) is Australia’s primary set of technical design and construction provisions for buildings. As a performance-based code, it sets the minimum required level for the safety, health, amenity, accessibility and sustainability of certain buildings.
